Here is a brief description of its importance and features:

History: Construction of Agra Fort began in 1565 during the reign of Emperor Akbar and continued to be modified and expanded by subsequent Mughal emperors, including Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

Architecture: The fort is mainly built using red sandstone, which gives it a distinct look. However, marble was also used in various structures within the complex. The architectural style is a blend of Persian, Turkish and Indian influences, reflecting the diverse cultural heritage of the Mughal Empire.

Layout: The fort is spread over a vast area, consisting of several palaces, mosques, audience halls and gardens. The layout is strategic, with thick defensive walls and grand gates designed to protect the internal structures.

Main structures:

Diwan-i-Aam: Also known as the Hall of Public Audience, this grand hall was used by the emperor to address the general public and conduct official affairs.

Diwan-i-Khas: The private audience hall reserved for private meetings between the emperor and selected courtiers or dignitaries. It is famous for its intricately carved marble throne platform, where the famous Peacock Throne once stood.

Moti Masjid: This ancient white marble mosque, also known as the Pearl Mosque, was built by Shah Jahan for his personal use and is famous for its magnificent design.

Jahangir Palace: Built by Akbar for his son Jahangir, this palace displays a blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural elements. It has ornate stone carvings, intricate floral motifs and beautiful Persian-style gardens.

Sheesh Mahal: The Palace of Mirrors is adorned with thousands of tiny mirrors embedded in its walls, which create a mesmerizing effect when illuminated by candles or lamps.

Historical significance: Agra Fort has witnessed many important events in Indian history, including the capture of Shah Jahan by his son Aurangzeb, who kept him captive in a tower overlooking the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan's favorite palace. It was the final resting place of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Tourist Attractions: Today, Agra Fort is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India, attracting tourists from all over the world to marvel at the grandeur of its architecture, learn about its rich history, and gaze at the nearby Taj Mahal from its ramparts.
